HoN Tutorial #1: "Last Hitting"

Hello and welcome to my quick HoN tutorial on “last hitting”. It is a common term used in HoN that means "to get the finishing blow on a creep or hero" though more often referred to creeps. “Last hitting” is hard for new players and can only be learned by practicing a lot but with a few helpful tips you’ll be on your way to becoming a pro.

First, you have to know what kind of hero you are playing (melee or ranged), once you know that the harder part begins. All heroes have different attack animations and learning the timing on each of them can help you get on the path to success. I am going to show how it’s done in a practice match with the newly released hero “Silhouette”, she has a decent ranged attack animation that is great for “last hitting”. Practicing on your own can go a long way but remember that a real match is tougher because there are enemy heroes.

Buying stat items for your hero’s class help increase your damage which in return assists you in achieving last hits. Also it is recommended to buy a “hatchet” if you are a melee hero and you need the last hits for the gold.

The correct time to attack a creep to get the last hit varies with how much incoming damage its receiving and how much damage you can put out but more often than not you will want to attack it when its health reaches the orange or red color. Always try last hit the enemy creeps first. If you cannot then you should attempt a “deny”, which is getting the last hit on an allied creep. Denies come second to last hitting the enemy creeps but are powerful in the hands of a skillful last hitting player. Denying your creeps to the enemy will decrease the amount of experience they receive when the creep dies and you are also denying them the chance to get gold from it.

Remember that the more last hits you get the better off you will be and the greater the advantage you will have. Being able to buy a bottle or boots before your opponent can be game breaking and win you the match if you can follow up and work together with your team.

Denying is very important for increasing the gap in power between you and your opponent. Being a level higher or two can help you net a “bloodlust” kill (first kill in the match) and help you be on your way to destroying your opponent and their towers.

And that concludes my first tutorial. Hopefully there will be more and I can share my knowledge with everyone. Til next time.
